Getting Involved

Interested in becoming a referee for EYSA? People choose to become a soccer referee for many reasons. Some of those reasons include getting exercise, earning money, learning more about soccer, building friendships, and challenging yourself. Referees must be at least 13-years-old, complete an online concussion certification, and attend a free referee training class. If this is something you are interested in, please contact us for additional information at [email protected]. There are also links to the right which you may find helpful.

Some coaches played soccer before, some have coached before, and some are entering this soccer world for the first time. No matter what your level of experience is, the EYSA appreciates your help. If you have questions about coaching or would be willing to volunteer your time to help out with the EYSA, please contact us at [email protected]. If you've already made the decision to be a coach, we want to thank you for volunteering your time to coach a youth soccer team this season. We want to help you make this a successful season. There are links to the right which may be helpful for you and you can always reach out to the board if you have any questions or suggestions.

Attention Coaches, you will need ALL of the following with you at the beginning of the season coaches meeting:
  1. Background check: Please click here to complete.
  2. Current Concussion Certificate of Completion: The concussion certificates are good for three years from the date of completion, so if it has been more than three years since you completed the concussion certification you will need to update this by following the link below. You will be asked to create a user account which will save your progress if you have to stop and come back to it later as well as it will save any past completed certificates so you can easily keep track of when you were last certified and can get a copy of your certificate should you need to present it to someone.

  3. EYSA Code of Conduct for All Volunteers: Carefully read and review the EYSA Code of Conduct in its entirety. You will be asked to sign a form each season stating that you have read it, understand it, and agree to comply to it.
  4. SafeSport Training - We have a new (FREE) training for you to complete. This was sent to us by the ESSL board president to implement starting with the Fall 2019 season. This is in response to the unfortunate events that happened with Jerry Sandusky and with the US Women's Gymnastics team (among others). SAY (and moreover US Soccer) has teamed with SafeSport for training and certification to help us. Please note this training will take you approximately 2 hours to complete, but will then only require a short refresher course of approximately 15 minutes for yearly recertification. SAY and US Soccer understand that this is a new burden placed upon us as volunteers and they have given us a link to pay for the course.

Here is the link to SafeSport training for SAY Administrative Board Members and coaches:

SafeSport asks that we only share the access code with coaches and other members of our organization who are required to complete the course. Please email
[email protected] if you need to obtain the access code.
