Dear Eastwood Community,

As the Spring 2024 season is about to get underway, we wanted to share with all of you some updates regarding the Eastwood Youth Soccer Association Board and the ESSL.

Team Tiering 

At the February 18, 2024 ESSL board meeting, it was decided to not tier teams (beginner/intermediate/advanced). Many factors went into this decision. With the implemented Fall 2023 Play Down Rule, tiering should no longer be needed. Additionally, each district had their own interpretation of tiering, resulting in teams with different skill levels playing in inappropriate tiers. 

Team Drafting

The EYSA board recently met to reflect on last year and discuss plans for the upcoming season. Through these discussions, we decided to go back to drafting teams rather than continuing with core teams. There are pros and cons to both methods and there isn't one answer that works for everyone in our program. Many things are simply out of our control depending on what other districts do or what the ESSL decides to do. Ultimately, we are trying to do what we think is in the best interest of the majority within our program. 

We were informed that some coaches are receiving questions from parents as well as hearing frustration that this information wasn't shared before registration. To be frank, we recognize this would have been preferable, but we didn't know this information before registration. We are volunteers too and doing the best we can. Emails to our board account are always welcome from anyone who has questions, comments, and/or feedback.
